Cathleen Volk, CPA - Vice President
Cathy is a Co-founder and the Administrative Partner of Schmidt & Volk CPAs PC. She and Robert Schmidt worked for several years together at another firm before starting their own in August 2001. Cathy oversees Accounting and Auditing and consults with businesses on day-to-day business operations, systems and technology, and entity planning. She also handles all areas of tax preparation and planning, and offers specialized knowledge in farm taxation and entity planning, taxation and small business coaching.
Cathy has been in public accounting off and on from 1980 to 1993 and permanently from 1993 to present. Prior to entering public accounting, she spent time in private corporate positions as a business manager, operations manager, financial manager, cost accountant and staff accountant. Cathy also has background in retail management, and was actively involved in her own dairy and crop farm for a while.
Cathy earned an Associate of Arts from Eastman Institute of Music and a Bachelor of Science with concentration in Accounting (minors in Computer Science and Economics) from State University of New York at Buffalo, where she graduated with honors (Magna Cum Laude). She is a Certified Public Accountant, licensed in the state of New York, and a Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor. She is a member of the New York State Society of CPAs, where she previously served on the Agricultural Businesses Committee, and a member of the National Society of Accountants.
In addition to her informal participation in various charitable events, Cathy enjoys spending as much time outdoors as possible and participating in family activities. She likes motorcycle riding (women ride too!), water sports and lake cottage life, camping and hiking, gardening, music, and horses. Although she still owns and lives on her farm, Cathy now rents the land out but enjoys being in the middle of the open space and woods.
